Starting from Underberg, your adventure begins with a thrilling ascent of Sani Pass, where you’ll get to enjoy freshly baked bread at a local Basotho home, while gaining insights into their rich culture. Experience breathtaking views from Black Mountain, admire Thabana Ntlenyana, and explore the historic trading post of Mokhotlong. Visit the secluded village of Makhapung, where you’ll meet a traditional healer and witness an authentic ceremonial dance after which we will make our way back to Sani Top for a late lunch at either the Highest Pub in Africa, or a local Basotho restaurant, the choice is yours. This tour offers a captivating blend of adventure, culture, and history, providing an unparalleled glimpse into Basotho life.

Kindly note: In certain events due to full capacity the Highest Pub in Africa may choose to only offer a set menu for guests (R220pp). Although we do our best to secure reservations in advance at the pub, availability cannot always be guaranteed.

Due to the lodges limited capacity, The Highest Pub in Africa are only able to welcome our guests for lunch with prior reservations. Kindly note that entry is granted only to guests that will be eating with them. Unfortunately their limited capacity also means that the lodge is unable to accommodate guests who wish solely to have drinks, use the Wi-Fi, or restrooms.

Important Info if you’re joining the Extended Lesotho Day Trip

DEPARTURE/RETURN LOCATION

Our Lesotho day trip typically depart from and return to the Grind Cafe in Underberg (view map). Alternatively we can pick you up from any of our listed nearby accommodations. If you’re staying within Underberg or Himeville but don’t see your accommodation listed in our pick up menu please contact us and we’ll confirm if a complimentary pick up will be possible. 

DEPARTURE/RETURN TIME

Meeting time is 8:00 AM for a 8:15 AM departure (Please note that departure times may vary if you are being picked up from your accommodation – in this case we will confirm your exact pick up time with you)
We will return at approximately 5:00-5:30 PM.

WHAT TO WEAR

Warmer Months (October – March): Opt for lightweight clothing, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. We also always recommend carrying a warm jacket, as temperatures may drop suddenly.
Colder Months (April – September): Dress in warm layers, with outerwear suitable for snow, closed shoes, and accessories like a beanie and scarf.

Kindly note that if you join the tour and are denied entry into Lesotho due to not having the required visa or valid passport, you will need to wait at the South African Border Post either until the tours returns, or a transfer at your own expense is available. No refund will be provided.
